Rather than acting as a traditional medical insurer, Optum functions as a specialized behavioral health care delivery system that focuses on immediate entry points to treatment (Optum, n.d.).¹

Optum does not require a referral for routine outpatient mental health at Wellmind. To get started, create your Wellmind account, and upload an image of the front and back of your Optum card in the patient portal. We will contact Optum on your behalf to obtain an estimate, so you are aware of your copay, coinsurance, or deductible.
